Our apostolic roots and revival
The Apostolic Church of Queensland traces its identity back to the original Apostolic Church founded by Jesus Christ and the early apostles. We emphasise Scripture and the belief that Christ established a fourfold ministry of apostles, prophets, evangelists, and pastors or teachers. We believe the early apostolic ministry—the “former rain”—was lost over time but restored in the 19th century through the Catholic Apostolic revival in Europe.

Disagreements about the continuation of the apostolic office led to divisions, resulting in the formation of the Apostolic Mission Church in 1863, which later spread through Germany and beyond. The movement reached Australia through H.F. Niemeyer, who emigrated to Queensland in 1883 and established congregations in rural communities despite significant hardship. Ordained as Apostle for Australia in 1886, Niemeyer shaped the Church’s enduring ethos of unpaid ministry, reliance on Scripture, and unity under Christ. His ministry also extended to fostering a deep sense of community and faith.

In Victoria, our chaplaincy is led by an Evangelist, operating under the care of Apostle W. G. Schneider from the Apostolic Church of Queensland. This dedicated team works tirelessly to provide spiritual guidance and support, fostering a sense of community for those far from home. We strive to be a voice from home, helping to create a welcoming and familiar environment for everyone we serve.
